Treaty of Paris of 1783
The 1783 Treaty of Paris ended the Revolutionary War. This treaty set new boundaries between America and Canada, however, there were different interpretations of it. Border disputes arose because of the treaty flaws.

Aroostook War
This war was a result of the border dispute between Maine and New Brunswick, Canada. The 1783 Treaty of Paris left confusion among people of this border. Lumberman from Canada and settlers from America moved to the Aroostook area and the conflict warmed up, with officials and bands of men from both sides making arrests and taking prisoners of trespassers. British troops from Quebec reached Madawaska, and the Maine legislature immediately appropriated $800,000 and called for 10,000 volunteer militiamen who were dispatched to Aroostook. On March 21, 1839, Winfield Scott and the British negotiator, Sir John Harvey, arranged a truce and a joint occupancy of the territory in dispute until a satisfactory settlement could be reached.
